Whisky & Gin

Whisky... and Gin too!

For those of you who enjoy a wee dram or two then look no further than Balneden. We are in Moray-Speyside, the ancestral home of malt whisky in the Highlands. Our closest distillery offering tours to visitors is The Glenlivet, approximately 9 miles away. The distillery is one of 9 distilleries that make up The Whisky Trail of Moray-Speyside. Amazingly, The Whisky Trail only covers some of the distilleries found in and around our pastures, there are many more to be discovered and in total 50 to taste. Closer at hand, the Whisky Castle in Tomintoul, only 3 miles away, stocks over 500 malt whiskies - with an adjoining craft shop maybe this is where you’ll find that elusive gift.

The Speyside Cooperage at Craigellachie is well worth a visit too. You can discover the story from acorn to cask, take a tour and see the craftsmen at work, or enjoy a slice of home-baking in the cask themed coffee shop.

If whisky is not to your taste, maybe a wee gin and tonic is? Caorunn, hidden away over the hill in Cromdale, is a little gem! Even if you don’t like the spirit, a tour around this small handcrafted gin distillery is a must. The tour is a wonderful aromatic experience – locally sourced, hand foraged botanicals make this gin unique and the tour quite something else.
