Wildlife
We are in a superb location to interact with all sorts of wildlife. We’re on 50 acres of working farmland and are surrounded by sheep, cows, pheasants, grouse, and (unfortunately) hundreds of rabbits!
Behind Balneden Steading there is a forest which is home to a huge herd of deer, which are inquisitive and have been known to come right down to the steading to see what’s going on!
One elusive Scottish Wildcat has been seen down here on several occasions,
usually at around 5am in the morning!
We have three chickens and two cats (one has adapted to local life brilliantly
and ensures that the local mouse and mole population remains well-culled)!
Local wildlife tours are available, and we recommend a visit to the Reindeer
herd near Cairngorm Mountain.
We are also near to two RSPB places, the Osprey Centre at Loch Garten, and
only 45 minutes drive from the centre on the Moray Firth with dolphin-spotting.
